Use cold sterilization with CaviWipes or 70% alcohol wipes. Do not submerge in liquids. Add a plastic disposable sleeve to cover the wand tip if desired to add an additional barrier to protect the patient. The wand only activates metal, so there is no risk of melting plastic sleeves.

What torque value are RODO Abutments tightened to?
RODO abutments are tightened to the implant manufacturers’ recommendations. The torque values are noted on each product pouch. Note all RODO ancillary components should be hand tightened.

What is the best position to direct the Smilekey when removing a full arch prosthetic?
Lingual is the best position, or the facial or lingual position that is closest to the implant position within the prosthetic. In the anterior, the lingual may be too narrow for the Smilekey to get close to the prosthetic, so activating the Smilekey on the labial will be more effective. Occlusal activation is also possible as a third option.

Tip: Ask the patient to swish with warm water to pre-warm the Smilelocs. Instruct the patient to bite down on cotton rolls or tongue depressors to help break the tension between the Smileloc arms and the MUA’s.

When activating a prosthetic, where should we position the head apically / occlusally?
Position the Smilekey perpendicular to the apical portion of the prosthetic, near the tissue. If the abutment position is visible from underneath the prosthetic, the doctor may aim the Smilekey accordingly. Some doctors also suggest making a dimple in the prosthetic facial to the abutment as target to aim the Smilekey during activation.

What order should the Smilelocs be activated to remove a full arch prosthetic?
Best practice is to start at one end and finish at the other end to ensure that every Smileloc has been activated.

The hole must be blocked out when picking up the prosthetic to prevent the luting material from flowing into the coping.

When using the Arm Setter to reset the Smilelocs, how much pressure is needed?
Gently push the Smile Setter Pin into the Setter and feel the metal shifting. Excessive pressure can ruin the Smileloc. If the Smileloc arm is pushed too far out using angled Setter position, then the arm can be bent back.

Can I reset the Smilelocs extra-orally with steam?
Yes, Smilelocs are activated at 55 degrees Celsius / 131 degrees Fahrenheit and steam will aid with removal of the prosthetic from a model. The activated position is the Smilelocs engaged holding the coping to the abutment.

RODO abutments are available in industry standard gingival heights and 17° and 30° for multi-unit application.

Does RODO offer custom abutments?
Custom abutments are not necessary with the RODO abutment system. Instead, you customize the tooth that will connect to a stock abutment with the Smileloc. Since there is no residual cement clean-up required, a crown can be longer and placed more subgingivally. Therefore, the emergence profile is maintained for a more natural, esthetic result.

What type of restorative material can be used with the RODO Abutment System?
The RODO Abutment System is agnostic to restorative material. Smileloc-retained dental prostheses have been restored with e.max, zirconia, PEKKTON and TriLor to name a few.

Has anyone had any issues with tissue swelling during the conversion process and then being unable to seat the prosthesis?
It is critical to relieve the intaglio so that you can try in without the SmileLocs in place to verify a passive fit with minimal pressure required. Once you verify a passive fit, then you are in good shape to put the SmileLocs in place and know that you can seat with ample pressure. The Immediate seat of a RODO appliance will require more pressure than a screwed temporary because the screws provide the mechanical advantage and drive a non-passive temp through the swollen gums while the same does not apply to RODO.

Will Smileloc unlock if my patient consumes very hot liquid or food?
No. Direct heat needs to be applied to unlock Smileloc. In addition, Smileloc is insulated by the restorative dental material (crown/prosthesis) and coping.

Will this technology heat up the implant and abutments to a degree that there could be an issue?
No, Smilekey activation is directed through the center of the tip and its magnetic fields dissipate into air exponentially. The doctor may instruct the patient to bite on cotton rolls with the prosthetic in/out of the mouth to compress the tissue. The doctor may also concave the intaglio surface of the prosthetic to make space. If the prosthetic will not seat even after these measures, the doctor may choose to send the patient home in the RAPID appliance and wait a few days for the tissue to recover.
